I love this book because it gets me excited about getting on my motorcycle and going for an adventure, but there's very little information in it that I'd feel comfortable relying on as a single source.The world is a fast-changing place. Motorcycle models, political boundaries, border relations, the bureaucracy of international travel and international routes are different today than they are yesterday. This book provides a great foundation on HOW to think about these things, but no book can be used as an authority on these subjects anymore; especially when you can tap in to fantastic internet sources reporting on daily changes in the territories (such as crossing South America's Darien Gap, where options are constantly changing thanks to new providers coming in, others leaving and laws governing the crossings changing regularly).There's very little information in this book that can't be found more reliably in online forums like Advrider or Horizons Unlimited.That said, there's something romantic about holding the pages between your fingers and getting excited about a big trip, and this book does that.

This book makes me want to hop on a motorcycle and ride everywhere! This book gives the aspiring ADV rider the recommendations necessary to get going. It's suggestions are extensive and cover many things that would have otherwise been overlooked (travel visas, international insurance, carnets, etc).I've found it very easy to read for both short and long stints. It's spectacularly well-edited, you rarely find yourself having to turn the page to read the last two sentences of a section before putting the book down. The writing is concise and gives examples and alternatives that might be helpful to riders of all skill levels.If you're even a bit interested in overland travel via motorcycle you should absolutely get this book. You won't be disappointed.

Even if you have a well worn copy of the last edition, it's worth upgrading to the latest (Nov, 2012 - 6th ed) of the AMH. Tons of new material and the same solid format that made this book great in the first place. Buy the book, read the book, ride out to an Overland Expo or a Horizons Unlimited meetup, do a few exploratory journeys (mostly to see how *little* you need to be comfortable on the road then go for it...

I don't have enough superlatives to describe this book. It's meticulously detailed, incredibly informative, and offers been-there-done-that guidance on practically every aspect of adventure touring. Of note: Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman of "Long Way Round" fame note that this was the first book they purchased in preparing for their journey. I've committed large sections of it to memory--if you're in the serious planning phase of a long motorcycle adventure, I'd recommend you do the same.

I learned so much about speaking through this book

This was a great read, gripping and informative, which is how it is easy to believe what he says about SIM card preaching! I will be reading through this multiple times. Highly recommend.

I don't mind listening to John Clayton (an ESPN football analyst) talk about the NFL action behind the scenes. I appreciate his insight on the implications of a star player being traded. But I wouldn't listen to him talk about proper form-tackling. He's a scrawny guy that has (presumably) never played a down of football in his life. In the same way, I don't want to read a book about preaching from someone who isn't a great preacher.There are some folks that are brilliant academics and can speak deftly about the theology of preaching but may not be great preachers themselves. Others are great preachers but aren't too bright. Dr. Doug Witherup is both. He is an academic and is brilliant in his handling of the topic. He moves deftly through the content and I can promise you that you will learn something new on every page. Doug is very well read on a broad range of subject matter and it makes for a fun and enlightening reading experience. But perhaps most importantly, Doug is a phenomenal preacher. He has been preaching his entire adult life and that gives the book a unique credibility. He comes to the topic with wealth of practical knowledge and you will come away feeling empowered to go out and use what you've learned.As an added bonus, Doug is a fine writer. The book is engaging and funny. You won't want to put it down.There is no way that you won't be a better preacher after reading this book.

Through the years, I have been taught the fundamentals of preaching, how to develop preaching outlines and how to study the Bible from front to back and back to front, but never have I seen the approach given by Dr Witherup. "Interrobang" preaching; The name itself even leads to the main point of it's message. Creating an interest and a curiosity that keeps people wanting more. Dr Witherup's approach is not some new gimmick or novel idea, however I believe it opens up a new insight into the basic fundamentals of communication that Jesus Himself used 2000 years ago. Somehow in our efforts to remain Biblically accurate in our messages, we have become Biblically ignorant in our methodology. I can assure you, if you are a communicator of any kind, the principles of this book will give you a fresh perspective on how your words become either powerful or powerless when they reach the ears of your audience. I have listened to Dr Witherup preach and often wondered how his presentation of the same text that I had preached in the past come out so powerful; now I know. I have began to implement some of his methods and have gotten responses from people like "that is the best message I have heard in years" and "Wow, that message opened my eyes to things I have never noticed before".Take the time to read this book, you'll be glad you did!

I bought this book as a requirement for a preaching class. And although the class is not over I still use the book. I put this book as a requirement for a preaching class. And Noble the class is not over I still use the book. The book is easy to understand and has a good flow.

Few books grab my attention they way "Interrobang Preaching" has. It is a great resource for ANYONE desiring to become an effective communicator. Having personally heard Dr. Douglas Witherup preach and teach, I would liken him to any of the greatest TED Talk speakers. His ability to communicate an "ancient-future" method of speaking, sets this book apart from traditional preaching resources and brings the reader into the mysterious discovery of the Jesus style of communication. I have personally used it as a training resource for our "groups" leaders with great success. Chiropractic saved my life after a serious auto accident. The medics in 3 hospitals, and 2 States, hadn't a clue how to help, but an excellent doctor of chiropractic restored my health.

I wish I had known about the failure rate for back surgeries and the fact that for most patients it does not provide relief but leaves one with multiple other issues with which to deal for the rest of one's life. I would never have had the surgery that gave me a spinal fusion. Finally, relief from daily pain did come when my neurosurgeon referred me to Dr. Smith and stated that he felt that Dr. Smith could provide relief through spinal decompression techniques. Dr. Smith certainly did provide relief and is an excellent chiropractor. I found his book to be well researched and to contain facts that would help every American citizen who suffers from back pain. It should be a required read for every patient who is referred for back surgery! All medical doctors should be REQUIRED BY INSURANCE to refer patients to well-trained chiropractors as a method of treatment before surgery. It is a tremendous shame for American citizens today who have to pay rising insurance costs that less invasive methods of treatment are not even considered by medical doctors who refuse to make referrals to chiropractors and continue to even spread lies about harm that will be done by spinal manipulation or decompression. I have heard some of these lies firsthand! Insurance costs could be better contained if exclusivity did not exist for chiropractors! Huge groups of Americans are not being annihilated like the Jews, but they are being INTENTIONALLY HARMED AND MISLED by medical doctors and the American Medical Association who profit financially from the large costs of back surgery! Way to go in telling the truth, Dr. Smith!

How has the media missed such a hot issue as that portrayed by Dr JC Smith in this well-documented book? Isn't it time for some authority to examine the frailties of monopolised health care system with a dubious efficacy and safety record? One where there has been active opposition to other models of health care.

I bought this because my fifth grade grand son had to read it for school and he was telling me about the story. I'm a potterâ€”we decided to share the story. This is well written with decent character development and a clear story arc. The factual information about pottery and the making of pottery is accurate and worked gracefully into the story line. The plot involves a young boy in ancient times who is trying to find his way through life as an orphan. He stumbles upon a community of master potters and becomes interested in their processes. The boy gets hired to do chores for one of the best potters, and finds a way to help his master vie for a place on the emperor's potting commission. It's an adventure, a story about building your self esteem and your skills, and a great story about commitment to others. I recommend this YA story for any age.

As a parent who is thinking of this book in terms of what it would do for my son, I must say that there is quite a bit:1. It's an interesting twist on a very old theme (the bildungsroman)2. It has a lot of topics for further discussiona. The history of Korea (multiple invasions, provincialism, and such);b. A lot of good sayings to analyze and for further discussion ("Scholars read the great words of the world. But you and I must learn to read the world itself.")c. Some good words to help build a youngster's vocabulary (spoor, celadon, lugubrious, kiln, slip)d. Morals about life (What lesson could a child draw from Tree-ear's bad experience with the thieves and then his later good experience with the commisioner? What could a child learn about the *way* that Tree-ear went about learning the craft of pottery? What about the way that he was aware of his surroundings?)e. Introduction of the concept of "intellectual property."3. There is a good afterword that explains the historical context of the book (that may have been more for adults, but it was only a couple of pages long and so it wouldn't kill a reasonably intelligent child to try to read it).4. The characterizations/ character development are very good. They are good at a level that both children AND adults can understand.The whole book only takes about 3 hours to read (I read the whole thing in one afternoon at work while being forced to hold office hours) and the writing is so interesting that it's hard to put down.Verdict: Worth the time. Worth the Kindle purchase price. Highly recommended.

It seems to me that Park's books are written much like fables, with each chapter, each episode drawn with poignant but concise brush strokes. Sometimes, as with "Long Walk to Water," this doesn't work too well; there just isn't enough in whole to support full-blooded characters. Here, this writing style serves her - and all of us - excellently. As elsewhere, she dips in, she dips out. But here, with each emersion, she beautifully captures the essence of the time (so long ago!), the place (so mysterious and yet intimate), the story (plenty captivating) and most of all, the characters, especially Tree-ear. In about a hundred and fifty pages, she brings them all so fully alive and compelling. This is only one young man from a remote village on the other side of the earth, some 900 years ago. In a world where we might easily wonder if anything we ever do has any impact at all, we can see through this brief but powerful story that even in the smallest niche in time, the courage and perseverance and faith of a single person - without magic or histrionics - can truly make a difference. The story truly advances the Eastern philosophy that there are consequences to each and every act (each shard?) of man. I love this story at every level.

A shard is a broken piece of pottery, and the boy and his mentor are broken shards of people. However, both of them retain enough of the design to continue their lives. This is a wonderful tale of an abandoned orphan growing up with a cast aside crippled man in ancient Korea. Daily survival is a first and very difficult skill for the boy to learn, and by accident he is introduced to a passionate interest and then he inveigles his way into an apprenticeship to learn from the master. The thought-provoking interpersonal relationships among the four characters, the hard lessons of patience for the boy, the developing sense of honor and lessons learned for both young and old in this low-key adventure story make it a tale to remember.

I was first introduced to Linda Sue Park from reading her picture book to my son, "The Firekeepers Son". It was a great story, and meaningful. Later, we listened to her books in the 39 Clues series ("Trust No One", and "Storm Warning"). Her books are kind, and have a lot of vivid imagination. She wove in Korean culture, folk tales, art, and history in a way that made it all come alive. This book is well-researched and I love how it ties in real historical locations and objects. The characters in the book also demonstrate good values, such as friendship, caring, courage, taking responsibility. I also found one or two precious little tips how to deal with life. I suggested this book to my nine-year-old for his book report, and was pleasantly surprised that he enjoyed it so much he practically finished it in three sittings.

The reader is transported to ancient Korea and introduced to the demanding work required by the making of celadon pottery. It has been years since I have seen celadon, but the author's descriptions were so precise that I could see it in my mind's eye as clearly as if I had been holding a piece. I try to read all the books I give to my grandchildren, and I found this Newberry Award winning novel to be quite exceptional. Youngsters will be exposed to Korean culture and history as they read this engrossing and moving story about a 13-year-old orphan boy. Love, loyalty, honestly and perseverance are all themes of this slight volume. Relationships are thoughtfully, honestly explored and are at the heart of the story. As a former teacher and as a therapist, I recommend this book for youngsters in grades four through eight.

I love the coloring book. I'm coloring it for my bf but I'm having a problem with the colored pencil rubbing off on the other shoe I'm coloring. So it's like I'm seeing double of what I colored that's the reason for the 3 starts it makes me mad and makes me not want to finish it because it kind of ruined what I had already colored. You can see in the picture what I'm talking about

I was so disappointed when I received my package yesterday in the mail. I could feel through the packaging that the book was super thin. So before I even open the package I was upset. For $15 I expected way more than what I got. If youâ€™re buying it for a child then I guess itâ€™ll be good for them, if youâ€™re buying it for yourself or another adult who is into coloring this isnâ€™t it. The drawings look like a 10 year old did it. Oh! And if youâ€™re like me that rather use markers rather than color pencils becareful because it will mess up the back page. Never again!

Book would be better if pages were one sided or paper was thicker.

My husband is obsessed with Jordanâ€™s. This and another weâ€™re a random purchase to add into gifts since coloring can be fun even at our age. Never knew these would be his favorite gifts! Could have saved $1000 and just purchased all the Jordan coloring books available lol. Thank you, great product, idea, and shopper was awesome fast and sent nicely so it was in tact and not bent when it arrived. You rock!

At the $17.99 price point I was expecting cardboard backed covers, nicely weighted paper, and images on only one side of the page and somewhere near 60-100 images, like what you find in most Art Therapy books. If there are substantially fewer images they would be on artist grade paper and artist level images, like what you find in the Pepin coloring books. The cover is flimsy and the paper is very light and thin with images on both sides making it impossible to use any medium that could potentially bleed through. There are 2 pictures of each image and as cool as that is I suspect it was done more as an attempt to justify the exorbated cost of this book. I did rate it 2 stars because the quality of the images is beautiful and they are iconic in nature but this coloring book is a total rip off at $17.99. The average Creative Haven coloring book is $5.99 and has a better quality cover, slightly heavier paper, and images on only one side of the page, and perforations for removing pages if you want to make copies or hang them up for display. Someone needs to reprice this book and I'm likely going to return my copy. Wouldn't be a half bad product if priced $5.99-$7.99.

My 14 year old loves this book and it gives him some non screen time to be creative in art and design. Great buy!

This was a super cute book. I bought it for my husband to read to the kiddos when I left for an 8-day business trip. They're still little, but I think this will be a great read for years to come as I have to travel from time to time. We are a working mom / stay-at-home dad family, and I felt like it was written in a very appropriate way for us.

After being a SAHM for five years, I recently started a job where I travel occasionally. I bought this book to help prepare my daughters (2 and 4 yo) for my first trip. We did the activities suggested in the book (make a calendar, for example). During the week I was away my husband kept reading the book to our girls. They did great! I really think this book helped them prepare for my absence and I highly recommend it.

I thought the book was fantastic for starting dialog about Mommy traveling. My little girl is a few months shy of 3 - so she doesn't completely grasp the concept of a "Mommy Calendar" or Mommy emailing her - but we were able to talk about Daddy giving her a bath and when Mommy comes home and what Mommy is doing while she's away.I do recommend it, even if it was geared a bit more for kids older than mine.

Mommy does travel, and this book comes out every time.
