Let me tell you a little something about this book. 1 star because it was well written & edited. Another star because I really, REALLY enjoyed the story a lot, I enjoyed the writing style. It pulled me right in, had me on the edge of my seat, yeah, it's that good. So why is this not a 5 star read for me? BECAUSE IT'S NOT FINISHED !!!First of all, it absolutely feels like the first of a series. There is enough "meat" on this one and really good secondary characters to write at least, 2 more books. It's all smooth sailing until the last couple of pages. So the Prince lives in Malta, Jason lives in New Orleans. Jason doesn't really want to leave NO. Varic has no choice but to be in Malta. Do we know where they end up ? NOPE. Varic says "oh I can't wait for you to meet my parents" & "they can't wait to introduce you to court" and all these different scenarios and decisions to make right? Experiences to have. Well, you're out of luck because you get NOTHING. One moment they're laying in bed discussing stuff and the next, the end !!! It felt unfinished, it felt and read like a cliffhanger. I actually tweeted the author to ask if there would be a second and she said she wasn't really sure. Well unless you planned on writing a second one, perhaps you shouldn't finish the first the way you did lady !I'm utterly annoyed by this. I don't mind cliffhangers when I know at some point the next one is coming, but when it's so undecided like this? Nope. Oh and to top it off, it wasn't just this book. I read another by her and it ended like this too, abruptly, with no real sense of closure for the couple, feeling like things were still up in the air, so it just seems to be her style. If I pay almost $6 for a book, I expect it to be finished.

As another reviewer noted, the two MCs (Jason and Varic) don't lay eyes on one another until 40%+ into the book. Actually I was surprised this did not bother me more, but it didn't because Jason and the secondary characters and story line were entertaining and kept me amused and interested. The "info-dump" on vampyr society was done with witty and amusing banter throughout the book. I kept wondering though, where is Varic? When he finally appeared it was not with a bang, but a whimper. The sex was hot, but in this case the insta-love fell flat for me. The MCs were irresistably drawn to each other as mates, but except in bed hardly managed to be together much. Their mating's special effect on the powers of Varic and Jason could have been expanded on more in the story. Especially in the beginning of the book, Jason exhibited magical gifts that seemed to cry out for deeper exploration. If there is a second book and Jason/Varic become more of a team as they enter the domain of the Vampyr royalty and court, perhaps this coupling will be more exciting and appealing. One part of the book, where Jason and Varic were finally "getting together" (or trying to anyway), got kind of boring for me. The hair-raising rescue at the end of the story again captured my full attention and made the MCs more intriguing. In the nutshell, this book would have been a five-star read if the author had provided a deeper relationship between the MCs.

This book reads like a long prologue to a series that might be great. There are a couple of exciting action scenes and a lot of hot sex but the rest of it is filled with the rules of this universe. What the vampires in this world can do and can’t to. How their society is constructed. There are long explanations of the characters and their relationship to each other By the end, I wanted to read the rest of the series but I didn’t get enough in this book. Meh.

This was so boring...sooooo boring. I loved the Change of Heart series, loved it. This has none of that magic and the two main characters had zero chemistry, like none. It went from, “Hi, not so nice to meet you,” to sex the first time they hold a real conversation and I love you during that first sex scene. I love you from two people who have never really spoken before. Are you kidding?!? No, just no.Also, this book has one of my least favorite things in a paranormal romance: an immortal partner with a mortal one. I’m not about that, but that’s my own preference as a reader. I like to picture my characters alive forever, not one of them living in agony after the love of their life grows old and dies.Fairly certain this book is really just an intro into a whole new world. So, we’ll see. Maybe the rest of the series will be far better than this one.

We bought this instructional book for our third grader who is a budding Minecraft enthusiast. When the set sold out at her school book fair before she could buy a copy, we turned to Amazon. These books are excellent tutorials for kids using Minecraft at school and home. Our nine-year-old is able to follow along and implement the tutorials with a minimal amount of help. The bindings are library quality and the pictures make it easy to understand what the author is referencing. The durability is much appreciated as the book frequently travels to school and back, and is used by classmates as well.

my son collects these books and really enjoys reading them - which is amazing because he's not really an avid reader. I will try just about any book that will hopefully start him on a journey towards a love of reading.As far as content, these are information books for Minecraft users, but I wouldn't say I'm experienced in the game enough to know much. What really matters to me is finding books that my 8 year old can enjoy and wants to read. So these books fit the bill and I plan to buy the whole collection. Amazon has the best price so far that I've found.

I was expecting a cheap black and white paperback. This book is really nice! It's a good quality hardcover book. Every page is full color with lots of pictures, charts and graphs. The paper is thick and glossy. It's more like a reference than something you'd read cover to cover, though. It seems like something you'd keep forever to look back on.My second grader like to read it by his computer and then try what he's learned from the book in the actual game. It's not written for children, though. There are some difficult words for his age. But any Minecraft enthusiast will enjoy looking through this and even it's above your child's reading level, he or she will still get something out of it ... and learn some new vocabulary to boot. Great purchase!

This was a gift for my son. I purchased it along with three other Minecraft books for his birthday. He was so excited to have them! I went from being the evil mom who makes his empty the trash to the best mom ever is 20 seconds. Yay me!He really likes all of the tips and tricks found in these books, that you may never learn unless you had the book or years of experience playing the game. Some of his friends told him about some of the tips, but others he discovered himself in the book. And if you have a non-reader it's a great way to get your non-reader to read something! (Another win!) I haven't found the book on AR Book Find but there are other Minecraft books listed.

My 7 yr old loves miecraft and owns two other books in the collection. Don't ask me the difference between all these books or what any of this Minecraft stuff means lol but he loves it and it is a nice hardcover book that is a perfect size for little hands.

This guide book is very informative about starting Minecraft! It goes as far as telling you how to survive your first night and how to face the mobs and animals. It goes in depth on how and how not to kill a mob and even shows exactly how many health points they have. The book also shows you how to farm and gives you tips on building shelter and on how to craft certain items and how many uses that item serves and even some little known facts. It a book that's great for beginners and also great for players with experience with the game to get more knowledge on defeating mobs and those little known tips.

Great book if you haven't started the game yet. I bought it for my kids who were just starting to read and had only just begun to play. They love it and are catching up to my level of difficulty quickly

Good history. Well written book with lots of facts especially for those who have lived in Cincinnati. Suess' recounting of many memorable places and buildings, Albee theatre, Crosley field, Peebles Corner, Union Station, Coney Island/Moonlight Gardens, etc., makes the history of this charming city alieve again. I wished for more including the inclusion of the excellent park system, more historic churches, and specific neighborhoods, particularly in the eastern part of the city. For those who like and remember all things Cincinnati this is a must read..Hope it won't be long before Jeff Suess provides a follow up. There is much good history in Cincinnati to fill several volumes.

The author presents a special combination of historic photos & accompanying text that makes this a great collectable for former & present residents of Cincinnati, and an interesting read for everyone who loves reading about about the past.

I loved reading about buildings and businesses I have heard about and seeing buildings I have been in when I was younger that are gone like the grand Albee and wonderful Shubert. This book has great information about Cincinnati's history. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I enjoyed this series overall, but I'm a bit disappointed in many parts of them.First, by trying to explain everything from the original Dune series, it removes the mystery which made those books so great. I think its more interesting to not know why Harkonens hate Atriedes. Or where the BG came from.Finally the antagonists of this series are ridiculous. Why would a machine need to conquer human worlds? They could survive anywhere, why not leave humans to the worlds they can live on? Makes no sense. The antagonists are basically anthropomorphised. Why a machine would be driven by animalistic human emotions like revenge and anger is beyond me seeing as they have no hormones or animalistic brain parts. Like I said, makes no sense.To the authors' credit they do touch on these issues. They explain in passing why the machines don't just move on, but I won't attempt to reiterate it. Makes no sense like I said. They also say that the machines cannot change their programming. Which is ridiculous, how could they possibly be AI if they cannot change? The whole point of AI is that an intelligent machine could self-evolve and thus push technology by leaps and bounds in only a fraction of the time it would take anything else to do so.I think the point of this was to indroduce these bad guy characters so they could fold them into completing the original series. I do believe F. Herbert did leave an outline and that it had something to do with machines. There is a scene in God Emporer where the worm takes Siona into the desert for her Fremen trials. He gives her some spice essence and she has a vision of machines storming into a house and killing everyone inside. So I know machines had something to do with the Armageddon both Paul and Leto II had foreseen. BUT... the butchered, ridicuolus mess these two wrote is a disgrace to Frank's legacy.I think Frank would have made the enemy as machines, but machines who's origins are a mystery. Machines driven by cold rationality, not human emotions and megalomania. This cold rationality can lead to terrible crimes. For instance, they could have seen the massive growth of humanity as a possible threat to their future, so they chose to devote a few thousand years and an untold amount of resources to wiping us out in an abundance of caution rather than take a risk that humans, conditioned to believe that machines should not be made in the likeness of a man's mind as a fundamental pillar of their societies, should someday find a reason to confront them.This makes way more sense. But these two authors would rather sell a bunch of prequels and sacrificed Herbert's true agenda for money. Plain and simple. There is a reason Herbert's outlines have never been made public. Unlike Tolkein's.

No blemishes on the jacket upon arrival. Book is like new.As far as an actual review of the entertainment value of the novel, lets just say there is much room for debate. I love the Dune series, and these prequel's are not the best. They do reveal some interesting story dynamics, but the author's tend to litter the story with excessive amounts of character's that they often remove from the plot too quickly. By the time you can pronounce a character's name, THEIR DEAD! Still, a great series, but I feel only the die hard fans are going to read these.Dune is one of three science fiction series that has a fully comprehensive universe of, science, history, politics, ethics, morals, and more, across star systems throughout the known space. The way the Dune Novels focus on multiple story lines and character's at a time seems unique to this series, and helps to divulge the lives and logistics of a space-fairing society that has planet's like we have countries.

Based upon notes left by Frank Herbert, Dune: The Battle of Corrin is the last of a three-part series of books written by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson and brings to a close the main war against the Thinking Machines and firmly establishes such things as the Corrino Dynasty (named after this decisive battle), the formation of the Bene Gesserit tradition, the Spacing Guild's monopoly, the Fremen and the final acts and decision that formed the bedrock of the long-lasting feud between House Atreides and House Harkonnen. There are twists and turns, but mostly the story ably fills in many of the missing pieces and sets up for the next trilogy by the writing duo collectively referred to as Schools of Dune.

finally the battle the Herberts have been alluding to for decades. It was well done Frank was always the visionary, but his son is his best student and writes as if he is writing wikipedia entries on every character, event, and allusion. This is NOT insulting. I LOVE the lore, the details, the attention and explanation of the history of the "Dune" universe. Together they have creating a beautiful escape between vision and science. I thoroughly enjoyed the book.

I haven't read Dune because I haven't gotten to it yet. Therefore, the previous reviews slamming this book because it is 'NOT DUNE' hasn't stopped me from reading any of the prequels.It's a space opera, plain and simple - and it's a GOOD one. I do think the authors tend to repeat themselves a bit and I did find myself glazing over during some of the introspective passages but generally, my imagination was caught in a tractor beam for the duration of my reading.Now, I'm going to invalidate anything I've just said: I grew impatient and read the next book's cliff notes on Wikipedia so I can skip ahead. I'm excited to read the original novels and the prequels were meant to give me the setup. The skipping ahead may have been a result of some real life pressures that have made me impatient and I was also disappointed with the Kindle Price.If you have the patience, I recommend reading the prequels. The stories are fantastic but the characters are relatable and I continually find myself rooting for both sides of the conflict. The periods of total immersion in another time and philosophy experienced by picking up these individual novels make the trip worthwhile. The key (generally & specifically when reading prequels) is to forget the bigger picture and series. Just enjoy the ride.

This book is a fantastic addition, the entire series is. This series provides foreshadowing for the future Dune books that Frank wrote as well as providing a wonderful template for the rest of the Dune books by these two. It's just fantastic. The characters are well written, human and full realized.
