Excellent book which is recommended by a host of different Catholic organizations of every stripe. For an amateur like me it is invaluable to have a translation which provides a reference to the corresponding paragraph in the 1983 Code of Cannon Law. Please don't be misled by the lone bad review of this English translation. That reviewer argued that this book was an inaccurate "interpretation" of the 1917 Code of Canon Law and that its "interpretation" was adulterated through the filter of Vatican II. This is simply nonsense. This book is an English "translation of" the 1917 Code and NOT a "commentary about." Other than a dozen or so introductory pages and about the same in a short appendix there is no mention or reference to any Vatican II documents. Only a handful of footnotes even post date the promulgation of Vatican II.

This book is the most important Canon Law reference book for the Catholic Church. In civil law, Legislative History is extremely important and often cited in legal argument. This book gives Canon Law a Legislative History. Canon Law did not evolve in haste, more like tortoise speed. But that makes the milestones even bigger. This book assembles them all. Today, in light of the sexual abuse scandals, there is much discussion over whether the legal system of Canon Law is really a legal system, and, if it is, will it survive the scandal. This book has got to be at the base of any such discussion. This history shows the identity of Canon Law and where it has been. This history will help lead it into the future. All of this is done for the first time in English. It takes every solid resource available in English and hands them all to Canon Lawyers on one platter! It refers to doctoral dissertations, official interpretations, association documents, and the Canon Law Digest. The "Curator" of this "Scholarly Appratus", Dr. Edward N. Peters, is both a canon and civil lawyer. The best lawyers are the ones who love the law. In this work, it is evident that Dr. Peters loves both systems of laws. This work is a crowning achievement for him and for the Canon Law of the Catholic Church.

I'd have preferred if Edward Peters hadn't including that Vatican 2 nonsense in his release so I scissored it out. I just needed the Canons and the bull from Pope Benedict XV promulgating it.

This work, the only complete English language translation of the 1917 Code, is excellent. Meticulously footnoted with research cross-references, sturdily bound, and attractively typeset, it this book will not only prove an invaluable research tool, but should still be in excellent condition a generation from now. The section headings and other components of the text are clearly demarcated, making browsing easy. My only quibble is that the pages do not have the book and chapter headings along the top of the page as many statutory compilations do. While I have yet to delve into the text at length, I can rest assured, having seen Prof. Peters's commentary elsewhere, that the annotations in this volume will not exude the same dubious skepticism of the prominent Beal-Coriden-Green translation of the 1983 Code. All in all, this work is a sound investment.

I am a big fan of Aaron Ra's videos, podcasts, etc., and I have watched several of his video series of the same name, but find that I like the book MUCH better than the videos... (which is odd, because I usually am more of an auditory learner) I think it's because in the videos, Aaron moves SO quickly through the material that it's hard to catch everything, and a lot of it went over my head. With the book, I can take all the time I need to read, re-read, highlight, make notes, etc. (although, I gotta say, the book has so much GREAT material in it, that I've got so much highlighted that I can't go back and find things, because I'm sure I've got well over half the book highlighted, so far! LOL!) As a former fundamentalist/evangelical young-earth creationist home-schooler, this is truly a breath of fresh air. Aaron gives very good arguments and evidence to back up all of his assertions. Great book!

If Dan Dennet, Richard Dawkins, Sam Harris, and the late Christopher Hitchens are the 4 Horsemen of Atheism. . .Aron Ra is the Horse who gallops the Gospel of Atheism into battle -- seriously, look at this dude's hair. Awesome as f***.I was raised to believe EVERYTHING put out by Answers in Genesis (mom was friends with Ken Ham).Aron has done more to teach me about the fact of evolution than any other voice I've listened to -- even Professor Dawkins himself!

Fundamental falsehoods video series is a must-view for anyone interested in understanding the deception present in the systematic attacks levied against science by those motivated by religious ignorance.This book expounds on the video series with even more scientific information. The existence of the Dictyostelium discoideum organism, for instance, was fascinating and a very interesting link between single cellular and multi-cellular organisms. It was not described in detail in the video but described very clearly in the book. I found the transitional fossil chapter and others particularly helpful. The only criticism would be lack of pictures - perhaps future editions could have those.

If you're familiar with Aron Ra, this book is largely a review of his brilliant "Foundational Falsehoods of Creationism" series. It's more in depth, and covers some new ground, but the roots tie into that series and it's well worth the read. He gets into things a bit deeper and throws in several interesting, new pieces of information.If you're not familiar with Aron Ra - I recommend this book even more highly in addition to the video series on YouTube as well as his "Refuting the Irrefutable Proof of God" series on YouTube. He is exceedingly good at taking immensely complicated scientific material and making them accessible to even the most basic people in terms of their scientific knowledge or ability. He is also incredibly good at pointing out what believers get wrong about their own texts and making them accessible to lay minds as well. For believers, I strongly suggest you read it. He addresses every claim made in support of creationism, or "creation science" - and puts them to bed with bullet proof, ironclad arguments and a well rounded body of facts that anyone can observe or check the veracity of. Unless you're the sort who would say 2+2=7 you cannot walk away from his series on YouTube or this book and still believe in creationism or indeed religion as a whole. It's impossible unless you're patently dishonest or simply care more about what you want than what is reality.A side note - you should also check out his science series. It's entirely apart from his "science versus religion" videos. However it's incredibly interesting as again, Aron Ra is very good at taking even the most complex matters of science and making them accessible and understandable no matter how basic your background in science may be. He also does a very good job of keeping it interesting and entertaining even for those who have high level degrees in the subject.

While you are reading Foundational Falsehoods of Creationism you can imagine Aron Ra speaking at some conference detailing the harm of child indoctrination. The video series that this book is based on is also excellent and everyone who wants to become more educated in the facts of evolution should youtube it. This book is excellent and we need many more people who are as passionate as Aron Ra to spread reason and logic and science to the world. We need to stand up to any organization that spreads anti-science messages and this book is a basis of knowledge that helps to refute this religious dogma. Well done Aron!

Speaking as a big fan of AronRa's YouTube channel, I was very optimistic about the book's content after first hearing about it. Unfortunately, after reading it cover-to-cover, I found it to be a mixed bag.This dense non-fiction tome is packed full of information presented in a colloquial, easygoing style similar to the content of the YouTube videos. However, while I can personally vouch for the veracity of 99% of the statements in the book due to my own research, there's no bibliography, and citations are limited to the occasional reference in the text, in the vein of "in X author's book Y, published in year Z," which undermines the book's professional credibility. In addition, the book is absolutely riddled with typos and "spell-os," ranging from simple letter transpositions ("ancient rock cravings") to more noticeable mistakes, such as rendering the name of Irish comedian Dara Ó Briain as "Darren O'Brien."In conclusion, while I do recommend this book to any fan of AronRa's YouTube channel, it was disappointing in terms of research and production quality. It's a decent book, but with a little more research and polish, it could have been great.

Here we go, Jim Cornette thought. The manager was standing on the apron of the ring in the Richmond Coliseum, an early ‘70s construct with the interior décor of a UPS warehouse. Cornette draped his left arm around Owen Hart’s neck, trusty tennis racket in hand in case he needed to swat a few overexuberant fans. Across the ring, Shawn Michaels was lying face down, left arm shielding his face. A minute before, Hart had nailed Michaels with a kick to the side of the head. The Heartbreak Kid responded spectacularly by sending his foe to the arena floor with a clothesline, then flipping himself over the ropes to get back in the ring. He preened for a few seconds, put his right hand to his right temple, and collapsed as though he’d been flattened by some GIs. Which he had been five weeks earlier. Michaels got the snot kicked out of him outside Club 37 in Syracuse, New York in the early morning hours of October 14, 1995. While WWE claimed ten vicious thugs attacked Michaels without provocation, most accounts say he was in a less-than-coherent state and had been hitting on the wrong woman. Michaels staggered outside to a car and passed out in the front seat when the tough guys ― five is a commonly accepted number ― dragged him to the ground, stomped on his face, and shoved his head into the bumper. The assailants nearly ripped off his right eyelid; Michaels said he didn’t recall the assault and declined to press charges. Unable to wrestle in the aftermath of the beatdown, Michaels forfeited his Intercontinental championship to Dean (Shane) Douglas a week later. But the fallout from the Syracuse incident was just starting. Maybe Michaels could fool the fans and create a little water cooler buzz in the pre-Internet days by fainting dead away in the middle of a match. “It was my idea and the reason for it was we had played up so much about Shawn’s concussion and there was a lot about this post-concussive syndrome,” WWE producer-turned-podcaster Bruce Prichard said in 2018. In wrestling jargon, it is called a “worked shoot,” an angle that has some basis in real life but is engineered to trick an audience. It is a script that seeks to come off as unscripted by preying on fans’ knowledge of events like the one-sided skirmish in Syracuse. To be sure, Michaels’ collapse was hardly the first fictional wrestling blackout. Just a few months after brothers Mike Von Erich committed suicide and Kevin Von Erich legitimately passed out in the ring, their father-promoter Fritz collapsed on Christmas night 1987 in Dallas and was “critically hospitalized,” according to the promotion, which tried to pass off the flop as another Von Erich family tragedy. The Michaels faint ― call it the Richmond Swoon ― had more going for it, though. Unlike Von Erich’s caper, it occurred in primetime on Monday Night Raw in front of about 2 million viewers. It was the first worked shoot angle of the three-month-old Monday Night Wars, competing directly against the marquee matchup of Hulk Hogan versus Sting on WCW Monday Nitro. And it opened the doors to a flood of worked shoots that continued for years as creative personnel spent considerable time trying to outsmart their smartest fans. “It became, ‘We’ve got this television show and we’ve got to outthink the guys who are doing the analysis,’ ” said Bruce Mitchell, a columnist for the Pro Wrestling Torch. “They got farther and farther off the track of what they were doing, which was to draw people to watch television.”

I use this every day. Both in orthodox and conservative minyans the book has been helpful. It is not useful for nusach chabad because that is too different from orthodox ashkenaz nusach for this book to be helpful. the only complaint is it does not have musaf for chol hamoed only for rosh chodesh. aside from that is has everything else i need. the printing is clear and easy to read and the binding is good and solid and holds up well even after years of daily use.

This Siddur is beautiful from the moment you take it out of the package. Once you open it, it's even more amazing with the Interlinear Transliteration helps and commentary. The only disappointment I had was not with this Siddur itself, but I failed to realize that this is an Ashkenaz Transliterated Siddur, and not a Sefard. That, however, does not take away from what this Siddur deserves! It's beautiful inside and out with Transliteration for those who are just learning Hebrew. Well worth the investment!

Beautiful Artscroll siddur. Orthodox, but even non-orthodox like myself can appreciate the beauty of the words within. Every section has a preface as to why and how these prayers are said. Any Jew can get something out of this siddur.

Ashkenazi book, but helpful nonetheless, as it still contains the original Hebrew inside. I was planning to purchase a S'faradi siddur, but that's simply not all that necessary.

This is a great Siddur for those of us who don't read Hebrew very well. This is a great addition to any library. Easy to follow. Nice typeset. Tons of information on the history of the blessings.

Everything about this book exceeded my expectations. My journey into learning Hebrew is just beginning - and I do have access to other resources.Seeing the text in the two scripts; having additional literary aids (e.g. The Ten Commandments with the trop or cantillation notes...); the inclusion of verse by verse commentary; and of course being able to read the English in parallel - all contribute to make this a superb study tool.

PLEASE NOTE: It looks like Amazon has the reviews for the limited edition, multi-author collection "With Dreams Only of You" (which is no longer available) mixed together with Kathryn Le Veque's novella "With Dreams" which is the first story in the above mentioned anthology but can also be read as a standalone. I just wanted to let others know of the mixup to help avoid any confusion you may have. My review is only for WITH DREAMS...Setting: 1272 A.D. Hadrian's Wall, with a Prologue more than a thousand year earlier in 124 A.D.WITH DREAMS is a tale about two knights, the lady they love, and an ancient Roman sword. It was equally tragic and romantic and is a story of obsession, vengeance, hope, and eternal love...This is the third novella I've read by Ms. Le Veque and like the other two, I really enjoyed it. Although short (it has just over 1400 kindle locations) I found it to be an engaging and compelling story. The prologue actually had me with tears in my eyes when it ended, and that was at the very beginning of the book! The characters were well fleshed for such a short story too. I liked Sir Eryx (though he seemed a little soft for a knight) but loved Lady Frederica who was strong and smart and didn't take crap from anyone. I even felt sympathy for Sir Robbin (the villain) though as the story progressed my compassion turned to disgust. And even though Eryx and Frederica only shared a single kiss at the end, I had no doubt that these two loved each with their entire beings. I do wish the ending had been less rushed and included an epilogue or something, but overall it was a fast paced, action packed, and entertaining romance. This was a brilliant six-novel-anthology that started with the story of a gladius (Roman sword) owned by a Roman soldier who inscribed poetic words on his gladius as a legacy to be returned to the beloved wife (Theodosia) he left behind as he died, and which was “linked” to a poesy ring that he gave to his wife upon their marriage. The other five stories carried the legend of the sword through romances occurring during the following eras, terminating with a contemporary romance that ended in Scotland and England. It was so exciting to uncover each story about the legend and the people it touched through the ages. A wonderful concept for an anthology…and I hope there is another one like it in the future.

I very much enjoyed this historical journey following the Theodosia Sword and the couples it drew together through history. There were some disconnects that distracted me from the stories, however, First, where did the poesy ring come from? It suddenly appeared in Eliza Knight's story, without any background or explanation. Then it became critical to the remaining stories. Also, the curse associated with the sword wasn't explained very well. Was the curse only activated when the ring and the sword were separated? I only was able to guess at that in the final story. Otherwise, the collection was very good, and I highly recommend it.

The start had me teary eyed. But each chapter, each era that the story takes place in is written by a different author and yet the story still flows together as time, the sword and then the ring move on. The symbolism is fantastic. The authors each give it their own special touch with their writing styles. The rivalry, passion, strife, characters evolve. The stories transcend time and continents.The dollar value on this collection goes beyond the pittance you pay for it. Well worth the value and I would so recommend this book. I am a historical romance addict but the modern story at the end had me hooked and it fit with every other story in the end.

I was impressed that multiple authors could carry this generational saga forward with a unity of style and, more importantly, a similarity in the feel and texture of the telling.. Each story varies from the others in its situational constructs, but moves the tale forward harmoniously, delightfully, to a justifiable and satisfying climax. Truly, although the parts are each good, the sum of them all is greater. Just perfect!

It's fun to wonder about old things, but even more fun to read a story about an ancient sword, the places it went, the people who owned it, those who wanted to own it and those who feared it was cursed. Six excellent authors put their heads together and created a wonderful story that spanned the ages. It begins in 124AD when a young soldier is about to die a violent death and knowing the end is near, inscribes a message to his beloved Theodosia on his sword, hoping that somehow the sword will find her. Each author chose a different time period to tell a story of different people who owned the sword and the effect it had on their lives. The last story brings us up to present day, and an exquisite ending, so very tender it brings tears to your eyes. A wonderful read that you can't put down. Highly recommended!
