I've used Rough Guides on a couple of occasions now while traveling abroad and each time they have proven spot on. This edition for Iceland was no different. It was perfect and really the only guidebook I needed (although I had Frommer's EasyGuide to Iceland (Easy Guides) as a back up). It covered everything I needed/wanted to know and did so clearly and accurately. Every time I travel abroad, I always reach for a Rough Guide beforehand.

Hmmmm. I like this guide; it has nearly everything covered. However, I've been using Rick Steves guides for most of my trips recently, and definitely prefer that style - more opinionated, more ideas about staying away from crowds, etc. So there's nothing wrong with this one, but it didn't really help me make decisions (although I did like the "highlights" page at the beginning of each section.

Ok we had lonely planet Iceland and this. I ran this book, my wife ran the Lonely Planet. At first this seemed more intuitive and easy to follow. But later I found my wife describing stuff that was not in my book. Interesting stuff was missing. Some mis leading stuff.. In one town the campground was "across from the University where you had to go to the bathroom" but the University wasn't anywhere near it.. it was across from the POOL and hot tubs. So what sounded maybe negative (no bathrooms?) was wrong... the campground had showers and toilets and a place to eat. In Iceland one of our favorite things was town pools and hot tubs after a day of hiking and driving... so this book sort of mis represented "no bathrooms" and missed the important part - pool across the street. Wouldn't have been at that campsite witout LP, honestly.

This is a wonderful book. Great information on Iceland, its history, its wonders and its cities. Actually bought this book after we came back from a week in Icela ng d because I wanted to know more about what we saw and experienced.Wish I had it prior to going.

This book was worthless when it came to planning. If I had just relied on this book to plan an itinerary, we would have missed 75% of the amazing sights that we saw,Luckily, I gave up, and used the internet and Tripadvisor, and had an amazing trip.

This book was basically our bible on our recent trip to Iceland. Some of the prices listed in the book have gone up since then but the book perfectly captures the best sights to see and the ones that can easily be skipped. Such a great find.

I have travelled a lot around the world and I always used various guides in hard copy. This was the first time I tried an electronic guide, the Rough Guide to Iceland. I am very pleased I made this choice, the guide was great, very easy to use, very detailed and at the same time by using the kindle version you do not need to carry heavy guides.The content of the guide were up to date.

Guide was very detailed and extremely handy to have. Prices were out of date, as were some of the open hours of certain venues, but overall a good book to have.

This is one of the best books ever written on game theory. I originally used it for my first year PhD microeconomics course as a reference and found it immensely helpful. Nowadays I still refer to it now and then during research. The authors also give excellent explanations of the economics, not just the math. A must have on the shelf of an economic theorist.You can find electronic copies of the book and the solution manual on the authors' website: http://books.osborne.economics.utoronto.ca/. The authors also maintain a very comprehensive errata for all printings of the book: http://www.economics.utoronto.ca/osborne/cgt/.

Ten years after this good came out, Osborne wrote An Introduction to Game Theory, a more comprehensive and focused book that also takes a more leisurely pace and provides more concrete problems. Some have said that this book is better suited to graduate students, while "An Introduction" is more appropriate to undergrads. Speaking as someone who's taken game theory at both an undergraduate and graduate level, I don't see any advantage to this book in either context. It is concise, yes, but it is also dense and suffers from the authors' disagreements over several fundamental issues.If you are looking for an advanced textbook in game theory, then I'd strongly recommend Ken Binmore's recent effort, Playing for Real. It's wide-ranging and rich in challenging problems.

This book was assigned for a graduate economics class I'm taking. It's very good, very complete, introduces all of the important game theory concepts in a very sophisticated way and covers a lot of material, but it's very dense, it doesn't take a long time to explain things. It tell you how it is and moves on to the next topics. I like a lot of the examples, they're entertaining, but they don't do a lot of showing you how to solve games. For someone who is learning game theory for the first time, I liked a book that was used for teaching undergrads by Dixit and Skeath, I think it was called Games of Strategy. But for a more advanced coverage of the material, this book is very good.

This book is a decent alternative to the Gibbons text (which I personally prefer). You could say this book is much more comprehensive and much more mathematical than Gibbons, though. My own opinion is that much of the game theory as described in this book is not general audience and sometimes very tedious if you are only interested in theory and not so much interested in real analysis.If you find Gibbons to be too easy or way below your level, this book is one option. The more ideal option, though, would just be to start reading academic papers - as you are obviously ready to do so. That way you could get the knowledge first hand and wouldn't need to spend time on a very detailed second hand review of areas that may not be exactly what you are looking for.

The authors assume that you are quite familiar with game theory. Concepts and complex notations are just shortly introduced, discussions of varied topics often ended up quickly. Almost no motivation. Not suited for beginners. I would recommend the authors to write a more complete one, in which every step and each reasoning are clearly explained, and suited for a wider audience, while maintaining the same level of difficulty. After all, a book, to be a book, should be “readable”. But you may find the book a little boring if you to seat in the library reading it in details. Rather, it is written in a reference style.

So this book is designed to entertain the minds of young kids. I didn't know that until after i read the book. This book lacks a lot of the details about the game of soccer, but it gives a decent overview of the rules and strategies. The pictures are really great and in full color. Throughout the book, websites are mentioned which will lead you to all kinds of detailed info on soccer. The book also describes records for numerous categories, like goals in a game, most red cards in a game, most own goals in a game(139!), etc.The second half of the book highlights individual players as well as great teams over the history of the sport.In conclusion, this book is not designed to teach you how to play soccer, it's not going to help you improve your game, it's not going to show you how to kick a ball properly, or how to properly play defense. It's some cozy reading material to give you an overview of the history of soccer. 4 stars instead of 5 because i like details!

Manzione does a great job of telling the story in a way appropriate to the subject matter. I imagined myself in a smokey bowling alley, hearing these great, mostly unknown men tell their "back in the day" stories. I'm not a bowler, but the pages of the book have me planning my next outing to the lanes!

I am of Brooklyn: body, soul and bone marrow. For that reason I was anxious to read Gianmarc's book not merely as a bowling book, but as a picture of a time and place that I cannot return to. The book doesn't disappoint with its characters, which some people may find fictiionalized, but are not. It is colorful when describing the characters on the corners, whether they are singing in harmony or hustling, or both. But in additiion to the comedy of the book, Gianmarc's poets soul shines through as when he talks of Kenny Barber who, after sharing his memories with Giarmarc, committed suicide. I highly recommend this book. If you want to know about bowling's history: read this book. If you want to go back to a time and place that exists in your heart and mind: read this book. If you just want a good time with a book: read this book.

A friend of mine gave me this book to read. He actually gave it to me at the Bowling Center. A few days later I started looking for it and couldn't remember bringing it home. I went to the Bowling Center to see if anyone had turned it in. No luck! The only thing I could remember was what I thought the cover looked like. I went on Amazon and sure enough it was available. I did tell my friend that I had lost his book. Really felt bad about it since he's son gave it to him. A few day later, I received the replacement book from Amazon. However, before I could give him the replacement book, I saw a black bag leaning against the wall in my computer room. Sure enough, his book was inside. My friend now has his book back and I received a bonus one of my own from the Amazon folks. Everything worked out great!

I bought the book for my mother for her birthday because she loved bowling so much in the 70s and 80s that we watched it on Saturday afternoon TV. It never occurred to me that my father, with his love of True Crime, would be interested in the book, too. As soon as my mother opened it, my father grabbed it and started reading random passages aloud to the family at the dining room table -- interrupting with his own "neighborhood" stories from his youth in Brooklyn and Queens, saying things like "That's what these guys used to do! They used to . . . " and giving us a history lesson of crime in the 70s and 80s. The next morning my mother told me that reading just the first chapter was like taking a walk down memory lane for her; she's excited to read the rest. I hope they fight over it and then share it with the rest of the family.

Quite simply, this is the best "bowling book" ever written. But it is much more than that. Pin Action captures a slice of American life from a bygone era populated by hustlers, gamblers, athletes, wanna-be athletes and countless other colorful characters. One can imagine similar individuals in pool halls or on golf courses, but in this case bowling alleys provided the backdrop for Gianmarc Manzione's masterful storytelling. The book is brimming with detail and shading that makes it virtually impossible to put down. If you love bowling, you must read this book. If you are a sports fan, you will love this book. If you are a student of the human condition, you will be amazed by how both strengths and foibles play out on shiny wooden lanes, housed in dens of inequity that have faded to foggy but fascinating memories — all brought to life on the pages of Pin Action.

Anyone who is addicted to bowling, as I am will enjoy this book. It begins in the early sixties, and tells of the young kids, who would bowl all night, if they could hustle another bowler. It talks of the oil on the lanes, the methods that the bowlers went to cause the ball to hook, because this was before weight blocks were added to balls. The subtle methods they used to get inside their opponents head before the match started. A very enjoyable read.

The book chronicles an era and a hustler. This is a subject not often treated. The author brings it to life awfully well. Anyone who as a kidhung around a bowling alley will recognize some of the characters and the atmosphere of the time. I am not much of a bowler but I enjoyedthe slice of life and the Damyonesque characters of the book. Nice work.

Loved this book. Took me way back to sitting in the smokey balcony watching my dad bowl in this 8 lane center (bowling alley). I was ten years old and myself and the waitress behind the little drink counter and I the only women in the place! I have bowled for over 65 years and continue to love it.

I needed this for my BSN course. I found it pretty insightful. I got the used version and it came in tact.

Poor writing, clumsy sentence structure, overutilization of conjunctions, and numerous sentences bordering on run-ons makes this book a displeasure to read. The material is not difficult to grasp, but the way the book is written makes studying more of a struggle than it needs to be. I only bought this book because I needed it for my class.For example, the last sentence in this Introduction section is a whopping nine lines long!

This book is for my Intro Nursing class and it is nothing but exceptional. It provides the foundation to my professional nursing career. It is extremely thorough giving a background on the history of nursing and how to advance the nursing field. Highly recommend
